As part of the Preliminary Activities Agreement (PAA) for the development of the Band-e-Karkheh oil field, the first coordination meeting (Kick-off Meeting) was held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the headquarters of the Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC). The session brought together senior executives from PEDEC, acting as the project executor, and MAPNA Oil and Gas Development Company, serving as the investor.
This meeting marked the formal beginning of technical and managerial collaboration between the two entities in one of the country’s strategically significant oil fields located in the southwest.
The Managing Director of the Petroleum Engineering and Development Company emphasized the strategic importance of the Band-e-Karkheh field due to its proximity to Hamidiyeh County, and highlighted its potential to enhance national production capacity. Referring to the structure of the IPC contract, he outlined key expectations from the investor, including timely financing, adherence to environmental standards, commitment to social responsibility, job creation for local communities, and agile execution of field operations.
He further stressed the importance of utilizing cutting-edge technologies, engaging reputable international consultants, and holding regular biweekly coordination meetings to ensure continuous alignment and steady project progress.
During the session, PEDEC’s technical team presented the overall execution plan, project timeline, and strategic objectives. Discussions also covered financial and technical dimensions of the project, while both parties exchanged views on ways to enhance operational synergy.
With this joint initiative, the Band-e-Karkheh oil field—recognized as one of the key development opportunities in the West Karoun region—enters a new phase of engineering, investment, and production activity. Its successful execution is expected to play a pivotal role in boosting the country’s sustainable oil output.
